Don’t do it. I had a stock that was $5. 16 I wish I got out at $4,$3,$2. Stock value is now $1. 95. This is not a time for experimentation stock trading. I had the same idea when I got Circuit City Stores Inc (CC) at . 87cents. Stock value is now . 28 cents. But I did get my holiday $200 savings book.

Live,
I would like you to do some homework first. With all due respect, I’m not certain you understand all of the different issues an investor is faced with.
I answered a question similar to this just recently. Promise me you’ll do some homework before you open an account.
Please follow this link and do some research before you invest. These are turbulent times for investors. If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can lose a fortune. On the other hand, as Kiplinger’s magazine (and I don’t even know if they still publish – it was something my late Dad used to read) had on their table of contents in each issue, was something similar to:
“These times, like all times, are good ones, if but we know what to do with them. ” Wish I could remember who uttered those words – they are so true. . .

Best of luck.

The first thing to do is to read everything you can find on investing. Some good publications are the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Forbes, Investors Business Daily and some Library books on the subject.
There is a lot of free advice available like

I think low cost no load mutual funds would be great to start with.
