I have a 1987 Scottsdale pickup that gets about 18mpg on the highway. Would my gas mileage take a huge hit with a modest in-bed truck camper? Or is the difference pretty small?
I’m deciding between a truck camper and a “Class B” campervan for basic solo travel. It would be used on many long trips, so fuel economy is probably the #1 factor.
Thanks!
Thanks for the answers so far. Regarding JetDoc’s answer, I would probably never remove the camper from the truck at all.

Your pickup will lose some fuel mileage due to the added weight and wind resistance from a slide-in camper, but when you’re not using it, you can remove it and return to the 18 MPG pickup. On the other hand, a class-B mini van camper will always get lower mileage
